Horrific Violence during the 1863 Draft Riots (http://firedirectioncenter.blogspot.com/2013/07/battles-long-ago-new-york-city-draft.html)

The plan of my project is to focus on the specific events throughout the drafts and dive into the extreme details. Through visualizing the details,  I want to better understand the motives behind the participants, specifically the police force tasked with the quelling the riots. Combining the accounts of newspapers with the David Barnes book and census will help completely lay out the events of the riot throughout the entire week.

As a back-up plan, instead of outlaying the specific events based off the accounts of people in the event, I want to see all of the specifics that the Irish population had to do with the event. While the lower class white society of New York were the main participants in the riot, almost every social group within New York was involved in one way or another. The Irish made up a majority of the police force as well as the mob. The dynamics of Irish fighting Irish have not been discussed and the reasoning behind how and why the riot played out has never been discussed.

The David Barnes book is the primary focus of my research depending on how accesible the book's data is. The police officers of New York City were brought into the thick of the action and played crucial roles in the outcomes that came forth from this week.
