Methodology Part I - Database
The first of my methodologies is to build a relational database using FileMaker Pro. This database is meant to serve as the central hub for my dissertation research on the Garrison Records. Currently, my database contains the entire corpus of transcribed records (as many as 45,691) with relevant biographical and spatial metadata. The metadata consists of 11 types, including, inter alias, name, government, duties, geo and building.
In this section, I outline the process of building this relational database. First, I explain the steps taken to design and implement the current database schema. Second, I discuss a method of data manipulation (i.e., Regex Replacement) required to create different components of the relational database.
